I'M SO HAPPY YOU ARE HERE!
Carolyn loves books. She belongs to book clubs in Wisconsin and Florida, enjoys the Critic’s Choice lecture series and follows podcasts featuring authors. Reading is her passion.
She and her husband enjoy travel and have hiked upper elevations throughout the West. Hawaii is their favorite. She shares her husband’s interest in old cars, attending car shows and cruising along backroads with friends. They also enjoy music and live theatre.
Carolyn knew she wanted to write after she retired in 2014. Several topics were on her mind as she worked on her 50th high school reunion. She especially enjoyed connecting with grade school classmates at the event. Conversations triggered memories of childhood: her family, the farm, the village and people that lived there.
Upon hearing a story of his grandmother’s childhood, Carolyn’s 7-year-old grandson said, “Grandma, you are so lucky. I can’t do those things. Life is different today.” The conversation with her grandson concerned Carolyn. Was the childhood of the baby boomer generation being lost? Could she use childhood memories to preserve the way of life she had experienced?
North Freedom is a collection of over 60 interrelated, nonfiction stories blending a variety of characters, activities and events that dynamically move on the static landscape of the village and the farm.
The stories are presented in 10 sections. A preface briefly explains each section and introduces the main characters. Over 50 candid photographs compliment the stories.
The book is an adventurous ride, meant to be shared.
